Baltic sea retreat course “Wisdom and Compassion”
May 5 - May 13
Dear Dharma friends,
We are pleased to announce a retreat course in 2018 in northern Germany with Lama Walli and Drupla Chris.
Lama Walli is a student of Gendun Rinpoche and a teacher of the Dhagpo Kagyu Mandala. During the retreat course, Lama Walli will give teachings on the following topic:
The topic of the first part (from Sat May 5th 2018 – Wed May 9th 2018) will be „working with emotions“ as expounded by the 9th Karmapa in „Mahamudra – Ocean of True Meaning“.
In the second part (evening of May 9th– May 13th) we will begin the transmission of the Lojong Mind Training. On this profound path we learn to understand the selfless nature of mind by means of developing loving kindness and compassion.
In buddhism, wisdom and compassion are regarded as an inseparable unity. In order to develop these qualities in ourselves, however, we have to first train in each of the two aspects separately. Accordingly, during the first part of the week, we will focus on the path of meditation and insight (Shine and Lhagtong), through which wisdom can develop.
During the second part of the week, we will turn to mind training in order to strengthen loving kindness and compassion. Here, the practice of „giving and taking“ (Tonglen) is pivotal. Furthermore, we will train in the view of the Bodhisattvas using contemplations which help us to sustain loving-kindness and compassion in daily life.
Since this is a retreat course, we ask you to kindly stay on site for the entire duration of the course. For those of you who don´t want to participate in the retreat, but wish to meet or visit Lama Walli and Chris, there are two occasions:
Saturday May 5th4 p.m. (Introductory lecture)
Sunday May 13th 9:30 a.m. (Praxis of Milarepa)
For organizational reasons, we are asking you to announce your visit in advance by e-mail. So as not to interrupt the retreat, we are asking you to not visit spontaneously.
The course will be held in German with translation into English. The course will take place near Flensburg (http://www.grundstein-neukirchen.de) at the shore of the Baltic Sea.
On Sunday (28.05) we will end the course with a Tsok-Puja open to anyone who wants to attend starting at 9:30 a.m.
Since it is a retreat course, we are asking all participants to stay on site during the course.
